Wow, is it really almost the end of 2014? Crazy! This as been one of the best years of my life and I kinda hate to see it end. I'm sure 2015 will be just as great, perhaps better (hopefully), but 2014 is one for the books in my little world!

I saw 4 amazing shows this year. It started with Haim. I discovered them through a recommendation from a friend and became hooked. If you get the chance, see them live...there are no words. Next I got to see a concert I had been wanting to see since 2007. Sara Bareilles. She's amazing live and such an incredible song writer...with the risk of sounding way cheesy and super cliché, it was a fucking dream come true. I also got to see Ingrid Michaelson for the 2nd time (I saw her open for DMB in 2007) and she was great too. But what topped off my concert going for 2014 is an experience I've never quite had. I saw Anna Nalick. Her, a piano player, her guitar, and a mic. That's it. It was outstanding, inspiring, and just fucking awesome!

I slacked on my music blog and basically took about a year, probably longer off. In 2015, I am hoping to start a new kind of blog in this same space. Instead of sticking to just music, I would also like to feature authors, books (reviews), artists, and any other creative thing people are up to. This is where I am asking the readers to help. Do you have someone you know that is a creative "beast" and should be acknowledged for such? Let me know. I am looking to interview and do features on as many people from the creative world as possible.

Seeing such great live music this year and being so close to finishing my MA in Creative Writing (Dec. 2015), I am incredibly inspired to make 2015 my most creative year to date. I also want to help introduce other artists, writers, musicians, etc. to the world that is my readers!

I wish everyone the Happiest of Holidays! Here's to a year of creativity in 2015!
One of those occasions being recently when an artist I have written about in the past, Douglas Garnett (DigDugDisaster), released a new EP called "Robot Arms" under the name Galilee.

Garnett is multi-talented in the fact that he explores different genres and does it extremely well. His new EP "Robot Arms" shows his extensive talent for electronic music. Driving home from work a couple of days ago, I was listening to this record. All I can say is, WOW! The way that these tracks are laid down is something I've never heard before. Usually, my drive home consists of singer/songwriter music with me singing along, but not recently. The past 3 days I have been listening to "Robot Arms" while driving to and from work and it has been fantastic.

I cannot claim to know much about the electronic music genre, but I will say I know good stuff when I hear it. My taste in music is very eclectic and I am always up for giving new things a try. Listening to Galilee's new EP has given me a new respect for this genre, as well as for the artist Douglas Garnett! The fact that the last time I wrote about him he had just released a rock record, which was fantastic and I still listen to it often, and now he has a new electronic album that is just as incredible, blows my mind.

If your reading this and you are like me and have never really gotten into electronic music, now is the time to give it a shot. Galilee's "Robot Arms" is exactly what electronic music should sound like. One warning though, if listening to it while driving, be careful. I got a bit to into it, spaced out for a moment, and sat at a green light until I was honked at. Click the link below to discover the many, many talents of Douglas Garnett!
Listening to her music made me want to get to know her a little more, so the following is an email interview that I conducted with Sasha.

B: How long have you been writing and singing your own music?

S: I've been singing
since I can remember. I used to be the kid who did all the musicals in school
and then I joined an A Capella group in both high school and college. I LOVED
my A Capella groups. I was very serious about classical piano though, and I
never had time for formal vocal training until a few years ago. When I started
writing songs and performing them, I thought, well if you're gonna do this you
should probably learn how to sing properly :)

A little side note: I LOVE A Capella, so when I read this response I was like a little kid full of giddiness!

B: Why did you begin your career?

S: I kept trying to
get away from music (for practical reasons) - I decided on a liberal arts
college instead of a conservatory, I went abroad for a year, but it didn't
stick and I always just went right back to practicing. And so, for impractical
reasons, I moved to New York and got a Masters in piano performance. While I
was at MSM, I heard a lot of different kinds of music in the City and got to
know musicians that weren't just in the classical field. Around the same time,
I also started getting into composition. My whole musical life, until then, was
spent interpreting music that had already been interpreted many times before
me, and I wanted to try writing original music. I was also going through a bad
breakup and writing about it. I wrote a few songs and really loved fitting
words to music.

Side note #2: Screw the practical and do what you want to do always. Thank goodness Sasha did because her music is terrific. And bad breakups (although they suck) make for some great lyrics!

B: What got you to the point in your career that you are currently?

S: Hours of practice.
Literally. And resilience.

B: Tell me a little bit about where you have been in your career and what you have been up too...

S: I feel like my
career is blossoming - I've had a really great year and next year is even more
exciting :) Some of my highlights this year have been recording and releasing
my bilingual Victory, playing original music at Lincoln Center,
giving a classical performance at The Smithsonian, singing at a gig in Las Vegas, being selected for a 2012 and 2013 Artist Retreat in the Blue Ridge
mountains where I composed new songs every day, and earning a favorable review
in the Washington Post! Next year, I am slated for 6 performances again for
Lincoln Center's Meet The Artist series and 8 shows for the Musical Explorers
program at Carnegie Hall. I'm really looking forward to it!

Side note #3: I would love to attend one of those performances next year ;)

Lastly, I wanted to know a bit about Sasha and what else she does when she isn't playing music and entertaining us.

B: Please tell me a
bit about what you do other than singing and of course, about that cute dog of
yours (we are friends on Facebook and her dog, Klee, is adorable!)

S: I'm a long distance
runner and running is usually what starts each of my days. I like the routine and it
gives me the time to ground myself and think, like meditation. I also love
black and white photography - I'm trying to carve out some time for this hobby and
it goes well with my love of traveling. My long-haired dachshund, Klee, is a
great friend :) I adopted him from a family friend and I've had him for a
little more than 6 years. He is such a funny guy. When I practice, he sits
under the piano like it's his job too :) When my band rehearses, he sits with
us even though it gets pretty loud.

Now that you know a bit about Sasha Papernik, let me tell you what I like so much about her music. First, I am a huge fan of the piano, especially when it is played by someone as passionate as Sasha. And of course, the fact that she writes her own lyrics is my absolute favorite. Her song Victory, which is the title of her latest album, really resonated with me and that is one of my favorite things about music. If I can relate to it, it is that much better. I can't forget to mention that some of her album is in Russian has she is a 1st generation Russian/American. I think that is pretty awesome too!

I urge all of my readers to check her out. Her album is available on iTunes and there is also a link on her website (website link below) to check out her music. Her site also has some wonderful video of some of the things she and others she works with have created! I look forward to hearing more from her and hopefully seeing her live someday!

Their name says it all. The harmonies are present and the groove is certainly there. Today while writing at my job, I was listening to the album Bringing Down the Mercury. I am not really sure how my colleagues didn't notice my blatant jammin'!

Although I must say all of the songs on the album have a great quality to them, my favorite is Get Funky. There is no possible way that anyone could listen to this song and not "get funky". I wanted to get up from my desk and funk it up a bit, but alas, there was work to be done. Needless to say, I continued to listen to the album and just had to fight the urge to get funkdified...

I am highly recommending each and every one of you check this album out. Below is a link to the website where you can find much more about the album and Harmony and Groove. I urge you to click the link immediately!
I get to share my favorites with other people and listen to theirs, often finding new music in the process...um, why did it take me this long to jump head first into virtual DJing?

For those of you also late to this party, hurry up and get here! turntable is an app that allows you and four other people to DJ together in a room. The rooms also have listeners, so you don't always have to DJ to enjoy this app. If people like your song you get points and the more points you earn the cooler your avatar can become! The best feeling is looking at the screen and seeing you are in the green rockin' out...

Perhaps most of you reading this already know of this amazing little invention, but if you don't, visit turntable.fm Sign up and start DJing. Look up Brandely and we can jam together :)Brandel Bhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18110414962115769181noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-441308678178427119.post-69387134452942236072013-01-21T14:10:00.001-08:002013-01-21T14:11:02.894-08:00SerapicosIt has been awhile since I have posted. The last semester of my undergraduate career has proven to be extremely busy, but alas I have found another band to review! Their name? Serapicos.

The band is named after a small place in Portugal. On their MySpace page they classify themselves as Pop/Rock/Alternative, but I would say they are more in the Punk realm of things. Serapicos have a very raw sound about them...I am not arguing that their own classification of their music isn't correct, but I do think there is a Punk sound about them.

I am reminded of Weezer while listening to Serapicos. For my readers who do not know, I LOVE Weezer. I am especially reminded of the album Pinkerton, which is my favorite, mainly because of the raw sound. Serapicos have that sound. The kind that makes the listener feel the music! The tune I dig the most is called "Blow Me". It has that Weezer sound, but in an original way that only Serapicos can pull off.

Check them out at the link below! Also look for their album on iTunes "Serapicos is a Town"!
Anya reminds me greatly of Sara Bareilles. If you have never heard of Sara, check her out, she is fantastic and Anya is just as great. She writes deep and meaningful lyrics that are far beyond her years and that voice, amazing! How a girl Anya's age as so much depth is beyond me, but thank goodness she does! I have been listening to her for the past week and I am completely mesmerized.

Although I have enjoyed everything I have heard from Anya, I especially LOVE The Giving. Anyone who has ever been in a relationship where they gave everything they had and still ended up alone can relate to this song. Mission Possible is another song that Anya has written. This song is about a friend of hers that has a neurological movement disorder called Dystonia. It is incredibly moving and amazing how much Anya cares for her friend. She is not only a beautiful song writer with a gorgeous voice, but a lovely, caring person as well.
StarsBurn will be coming out this fall. I have had the opportunity to hear StarsBurn in its entirety and well frankly, I haven't been able to stop! This album in absolutely amazing. It has a raw feel, but also very well put together. The genre is hard to place has there are sounds of pop, rock, and everything in between.

My favorite song on this e.p. is Come to Me. While listening to this song I cannot stop moving around. The song is energetic and masterfully done! As all my readers know, I am a huge fan of lyrics and the lyrics for Come to Me are fantastic. They seem to be coming from someone that really wants to be with the person that they are in love with, but the person of object does not want the same things. I get a lot of feeling from this song and I love that.
Not because I haven't been listening, but because I have been incredibly busy. With no further ado, my next blog is on the lovely singer/songwriter Kati Mac.

Kati Mac has a voice that is soothing, and at the same time a little bit angry, on the album Save Me From Myself. My absolute favorite on this album is the song titled Bullet Hole Road. It is gritty, angry, sad, and a bit empowering. Kati is not new to the scene, but this album is different from others she has done, and I say BRAVO!

To learn more about Kati Mac follow the link below! She is definitely worth a listen...
So, when I found the band Antioquia I just knew I had to share them with all of my readers. Pronounced an-tee-OH-kee-ah, even their name is out of the ordinary, which by the way is fantastic!

Their most current album is titled Viajero and every song on the album is unique (another hard thing to find these days). I love funk and Antioquia is funky to the max. The first time I really listened to them I was driving and I almost had to pull over so that I could get out and dance. If you don't want to dance around while listening to this album, then perhaps you should re-listen because it is impossible not to move when their music is playing. I can only imagine what a live show is like, but from everything I have read, seeing them live is incredible. If I am ever in an area that they are playing, you can bet I will be at that show!

Check Antioquia out at the link below and be prepared to get funky!
I heard a cover of Billy Joel's She's Always a Woman by Matt Wilson Band and just had to hear more. The album Volume 2000-2010 has a Billy Joel vibe, but in it's own unique way. To any of my readers that enjoy blues, jazz, and the piano, this album and band is definitely for you.

The album has ten songs and every single one of them is worth a listen. My favorite, besides the Billy Joel cover of course, is definitely Press On. I love the message in the song: No matter what cards life deals you, you just keep on going...I truly believe this is a message everyone should live by and this song is a great reminder of that.

Matt Wilson is a seasoned performer and by listening to Volume 2000-2010 this is extremely evident. Boy can that man tickle those ivories! Are you intrigued yet? I bet you are, so below is the website where you can learn more about the Matt Wilson Band. The album Volume 2000-2010 can also be found on iTunes, so what are you waiting for....check this band out!!!!
Being a teenager in the late '90s, Vintage Blue brings me back to that time. FYI: I loved it! They have a style that is fantastic, mainly because it is not just one style. These guys can do just about anything and it sounds wonderful. I wanted to know more about this band and what makes them tick, so here is an email interview that was conducted with one of the members, Ben.

Give me a short history/background of yourself?
(where did you grow up, where you live now, how old you were when music first
effected your life)

I (Ben Bassett) was born on the East Coast in Pittsfield, MA but moved to the West Coast whenI was very young. I grew up in Monterey, CA and Chico, CA. Monterey is a beautiful town onthe Monterey bay near Pebble Beach and the Carmel Valley. It is one of the most scenic areasI have ever been and someday I hope to live there again. Chico is a college town and is in theNorthern California valley. It is a great place to raise a family and a very comfortable communitywhere people very rarely leave. I left California when I went away for college in the Midwest. Ihave been there ever since, moving from college (in St. Louis), to Chicago to pursue an advanceddegree.Music has been a part of my life since I was very little. My step-father had a degree in musicand was a very talented musician in his own right. We always had a piano in the house and heoften filled the house with the sound of classic rock and soul/funk tunes that he and my momreally enjoyed. When I was old enough, my step-dad, step-brother and I would team up aroundthe piano and learn three-part harmonies to Beatles tunes and other great rock n’ roll classics. Those early lessons continue to guide me today.

1

If you could describe your music, how would you?

We use the tagline “Contemporary. Classic. Rock.” We think that line best defines what weare. We all grew up on the classic rock of The Eagles, Queen, Tom Petty, The Doors, CCR andThe Boss, so when we started writing music together those influences naturally came through. But you cannot just emulate what has come before, you should build on it. So we tried toadd a more contemporary edge on some of the tunes with some synth, crunchy guitar andincorporated layered horns and harmonies. If you listen to our record you will see that our music covers a handful of sub-genres from ska, toblues, to folk. Because all these influences are felt on our record, there is something for everyfan of rock and roll. There is even a song with a string section!!

1

Favorite song?, band?

I HATE THIS QUESTION!!! Ha ha ha. I have so many bands and songs that I love, it really
depends on the day, my disposition and the color of my mood ring. Some of my favorite artists
that have always been on my mix-tapes are Aerosmith, Nirvana, The Doors, Foo Fighters, Frank
Sinatra, Steely Dan and SRV. While many in my band think I am crazy, I also have a TON of pop
music. There is a reason that pop music will never die. Sometimes you just want something
light and fun! As far as favorite songs … ugh. A young lady I recently started investigating
has turned me on to the newer dubstep and indie artists and I have been repeatedly listening
to “One on One” by The Bird and the Bee. It is a re-make of the old Hall n’ Oates tune. Pretty
awesome and sensual.

What do you do besides making music?

Why would I do anything besides make music? In all honesty, making music, when donecorrectly and with feeling and emotion generally takes a lot of time and consideration. You areconstantly analyzing everyday thoughts and extrapolating lyrics or ideas. But as a band we allhave our 9-5 jobs and do the whole “job” thing. We are all very grateful to have careers thatalso allow us to pursue our love of music. Outside of that, we do the usual things, hang out,go eat and drink at our favorite spots here in Chicago. We also spend a ton of time supportingother local bands that have supported us. We try to get out and hit the local music scene asmuch as we can.

What are your hopes and/or plans for the feature
with your music?

Personally, I cannot imagine my life without music as a key part of it. The process of making ourfirst record brought so much good fortune into our life. We met our producer Jamie Candiloro(REM, Ryan Adams), played shows with Sister Hazel, Vertical Horizon and Richard Marx, we haveplayed several shows at some of the most prestigious Chicago music venues, and we have hadour record passed to some of the most influential names in the music industry. I continue tosoak up the connections we have made and the success we have had with this first record havedriven us to already begin work on a follow-up record. Ultimately we have no idea where ourmusic will take us, but we all would love to keep our band growing and keep moving ahead, exposing our music to new fans and new people all over the world.

My favorite part of this interview is the answer, "Why would I do anything besides music?" What a perfect answer. Vintage Blue is based out of Chicago, and for most of my readers, that is not very far away. So my advice, check these guys out and if you dig them (which I am guaranteeing you will) go see them. Below is the link to their website. Their music can also be found on iTunes. I cannot forget to mention that my favorite song on their album Strike the Mics is Unchained. It's the scream, it's definitely the scream!
I am not one who would go to a club and dance, however, I was definitely "moving" while listening to Obsession. This made me want to know more about them, so I sent them an interview. Jonathon and Aryn are the members of Obsession and the following is the interview that was sent to them.

Currently we still live in the Indianapolis area. Growing up, both of us listened to all types of music from Pop to Country, Rock to R&B, and everything in between. We only want the best quality and sound for our fans, so we decided to take the recording process slow to achieve that. We also hope to eventually be signed to a label, and that way we know that we are reaching as many people as possible through radio, television, etc. We always tell everyone that we meet to keep an eye out for us, because we will be taking over the world with our music!

I am posting this to let everyone know I have not quit writing this blog, but am terribly busy with school, so I am taking a bit of a hiatus from the blog. Probably just a week or two. During the break I will be looking for new artist to write about. If you have anyone in mind send me an email and I would be glad to check them out. Thanks for reading....
This entry is going to be a bit different from the previous reviews and will include an interview as well as my review.

Hunter Reese is definitely one of a kind. The first time I listened to his album I was impressed by the complexity of what Reese is portraying with his lyrics. This guy has quite a mind...
HR: "I was born in Turlock, CA and I was raised not too far from there in the small town of Stevinson, CA. I
I appreciate having grown up in a small town now, but at the time I really hated it, I felt stifled
by the small-town atmosphere. My saving grace was my involvement in extra curricular activities. The
one I’m particularly proud of is FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America), I was a Central Section
officer, I believe we represented 29 schools in California.
I met a lot of people through FBLA so the summer of 2009 I decided I would go on a road trip and visit
some of them. I stopped in San Francisco for a few days and then went to Denver, CO. When I arrived
in Denver, I loved it so much I decided to stay. I used to joke and say that the only reason I stayed was
because I didn’t want to drive back (I didn’t really care for the 23 hour drive) but looking back I think
that was a part of my motivation to make Denver my new home.
I went to school there and also worked for a great Career Center. Working there saved my life, it was
there that I realized that committing to my dreams of being “an artist” was the only logical path for
me. The career assessments said it, and my heart believed it. So I got the guts and began taking acting
classes. I was 100% certain that acting was “it” for me, then in late April 2011 I met a producer through
I wrote my first song “The Age of Young” that same week after Google’ing and studying a few days, then
just dove in. I ended up writing somewhere around 150 songs and melodies for this album, I lost all of
them when my hard drive crashed, except for the 10 on the album. Many of the songs in the album
were inspired by my love for conspiracy theories but also by my emotional state at the time, which was
chaotic. Once I was done recording the vocals and writing the songs I moved to Los Angeles. I had always
I am a product of bands like Alice in Chains and Guns n Roses, which are my two favorite in this genre, and Pheroze brought me back to the days when I would rock out with my old roommates and great friends a million years ago! Yup, those were the days...

I recently listened to Pheroze's most recent album Crows Into Swine, and I must say, I am super impressed. Especially because Pheroze tends to do most of the record making process himself. That is a true musician right there. Also I must mention that his lyrics have a depth to them that I find to be absent from a lot of music, especially in the harder rock area these days.

Pheroze is on Twitter and Facebook, and you can purchase his music on iTunes. Follow the link below to read and hear more about/from Pheroze. His story is an interesting one. I urge my readers to check him out even if this genre isn't your favorite. Pheroze has great things to say and he should be heard!
Was my excitement wasted? No Way!!! This album is incredible. It is classic Ingrid, but with a twist. Her previous albums (I love them all) have been quite different from this one. Human Again has more of a rock vibe to it then her previous albums. There are a few songs with a funk presences and the lyrics on this album are amazing!

The first song on the album, Fire, prepares the listener for quite a treat. "Open heart surgery, that is what you do to me." This is the first line in the song, and it sets up the feel of the rest of the album. The album has a after a horrible break up vibe, as well as an I still love you vibe. It is that exact struggle that makes a person human, hence the title Human Again.

My favorite song on the album (right now) is I'm Through. The lyrics to the song just make sense to me. Who hasn't been through something in the past and wanted to blame it on someone else, "It's all because of you I'm through." Although I have learned that I make my own choices, I have felt this way more than once. This song also shows off Ingrid's voice. Wow, can this girl sing or what?

The last song I will write about is Black and Blue. This song is fantastic with it's funk feel. The lyrics once again are discussing something of a break-up, "Everybody knows that I'm a mess, everybody knows you stole the heart from out my chest." Either Ingrid dealt with an awful relationship and was inspired to write this album, or she is channeling every woman who has been fooled. Whatever it is, this album is wonderful.

Human Again displays how Ingrid has grown as a songwriter and the sound is different from anything we have ever heard from her. If you have been a fan in the past, this album is a must listen. If you have never heard any of Ingrid's music, get with the program and check her out!Brandel Bhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18110414962115769181noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-441308678178427119.post-16905209678349844732012-01-15T14:33:00.000-08:002012-01-15T14:33:38.869-08:00Secret SkwirlMy favorite kind of music is from the 1960's and 1970's, although I like today's music too, there was just something about that time that made music wonderful. It could have been what was going on politically and socially at the time, but I think it was a bit more. Secret Skwirl reminds me of the music from those times, but with a modern feel. I am reminded of The Beatles, Chicago, and the older recordings of Pink Floyd when listening to Secret Skwril.

I particularly enjoy the song Jeez Louise. I love the lyric, "What matters more is what your not, than what you are." How true is that? I also love how Jeez Louise has a double meaning. I say jeez louise all the time and never is there really a Louise around. In the song, Jeez Louise is a person, and it could also be refering to the saying. Brilliant, right?

Secret Skwirl is GREAT at what they do. I listened to the album Nothing is Real and fell in love. I rarely find this genre of music anymore, and done so well. Check them out on Twitter, Facebook, and purchase their album on iTunes. I strongly suggest my readers to give them a listen. As I said before, they are a rare band, one that we do not find a lot today, and most enjoyable. Their music, bio, etc. can be found on their website below.

I have always been a fan of folk music and Susan Picking is one of
the best I have heard in a long time. I would not say she is completely folk
though. She is an amazing singer/songwriter and she even has the certificates
to prove it!

With the holidays
just getting over, I had a lot of cleaning to do (mostly from taking advantage
of my recent break) and I decided I would listen to Wonder in the Wander by
Susan Picking. Not only is the title of the record brilliant, but so is the
record itself. It actually made my cleaning frenzy seem not only bearable (I loath cleaning), but dare I say fun?! Yup, I dare, and look forward to dancing
around with the broom again. The lyrics are thoughtful. The music is whimsical.
This album is a must listen.

I usually promise
that listening to what I write about will not be regretted, and I will once
again, but I also must promise that NOT listening to Susan Picking will be
regretted. Her music can be found on iTunes, as well as at her website listed
below. Enjoy this one folks!!!

She even has her own label! However, this blog isn't about her business sense, but her music, and, believe me, it is just as fantastic. I recently purchased her album on iTunes and it is super great.

Today, while baking a million cookies, I listened to Fiction in Some Direction three times. Zoe's website says that she is like "Tori Amos having dinner with Coldplay, and meeting Death Cab for Cutie for drinks", and although I believe this is right on, I am also reminded of Alanis Morissette's first album. The energy that Jagged Little Pill had is very similar to the energy coming through in Fiction is Some Direction. If I had to single out one track, which is hard because I truly dug them all, I would say my favorite is track 8, In Love. In Love reminds me of a lullaby, but in a rockin' kinda way.

Every track on the album is wonderful and if your interest has been peaked, follow the link below. Zoe's album can also be found on iTunes. If you do check her out, which I highly recommend (would I ever steer my readers wrong), comment below. I would love to know what my readers thing for once. Don't forget to click the link below and get to know a wonderful musician, Anna Zoe.
Not just any smile, but that "yeah this is what I'm talking about" smile. With a smooth bluesy voice backed by an acoustic guitar I am in heaven. When wanting to relax and enjoy some great music, Hanson sure does deliver.

I am reminded of John Mayer, and not the bad stuff, but the really great stuff, like from the album Continuum. I also get a little sense of Matchbox Twenty, once again their older stuff. The song Real Love by Hanson is perfect. It is one of those songs where the eyes can be closed and the music and lyrics can be felt through every part of the body. I am actually typing with my eyes closed right now listening to Real Love. I especially like the break down in the middle of the song. I believe I even hear a cowbell!

Hanson has a couple of singles on iTunes and you can find him on Twitter as well. Follow the link below and check him out. Grab a beer, or a glass of wine, and just soak in the wonderful tunes!

They are AWESOME!! Ten Year Vamp is made up of four rockin' dudes, a super hot chick, and lots of energy and style. This band reminds me of something I listened to in high school, but I cannot quite put my finger on it. Their website (at the bottom of this blog) describes them as a mix between No Doubt and Foo Fighters, which I can certainly get on board with.

I recently became aware of this band and got their newest EP, Lust, and I absolutely adore it. I have listened to the record a million times since the first time I heard it. It still has not gotten old, and I don't think it ever will. Normally I would pick a song or two and state why I like each one, but with this record I can not just pick a couple. I truly enjoy every song on Lust!

If you are looking for something that is rockin, sultry, sexy, and a plain out good time, Ten Year Vamp is for you. I encourage every single one of my readers to check this band out. They are on Twitter, @TenYearVamp, and have a fan club on facebook! Look them up and dig this fantastic music with me. As I always promise, there will be no disappointment! Don't forget to check out their website below for show listing, merch, and plenty more.
That album is Maybe You've Been Brainwashed Too by The New Radicals. Wilde's music reminds me of this because it is so unique. I believe uniqueness is a hard thing to find these days, but if you are looking for it, then Wilde is where you will find it.

Wilde's voice has a rock star quality to it and at the same time sounds so smooth. Her lyrics can be funny and deep, depending on how a person interprets them. And the music is just incredible. It has a club feel, a rock feel, and a chill feel. I am not sure if that even makes any sense, but this is what I get from Wilde's music.

I am willing to bet if any of my readers check her out, they too will be hooked. I listened to her while doing homework all night last night! You can find her on twitter @MonannLisaWilde and you can get her music and learn more about her at www.monannlisawilde.com . Check her out, buy her music, support an amazing artist!Brandel Bhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18110414962115769181noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-441308678178427119.post-10906198086408682342011-10-28T10:57:00.000-07:002011-10-31T16:40:45.720-07:00The Sing OffI like to take little breaks from my reviews of musicians and write about something different. This week I am going to write about one of my current obsessions. The Sing Off is a contest in which a cappella groups compete to win the prize of $200,000 and a recording contract. I became addicted to this show their second season, but this season is blowing my mind!

The very first show this season was amazing. I fell in love with Delilah and their cover of Bruno Mars's Grenade. This cover is the best cover I have ever heard and it was a cappella. AMAZING!!!! Therefore, from the start of the show I wanted Delilah to win. I was so impressed.

Then about three shows in, Pentatonix caught my attention with their rendition of Your Love Is My Drug. My guilty pleasure is cheesy pop songs, and Pentatonix's version of this one was incredible. Not to mention their covers of Video Killed The Radio and Love Lockdown, which are the two coolest performances I have ever seen. As Ben Folds said after one of their performances, they really do sound like the future.

The other thing that makes this show so enjoyable for me is Sara Bareilles being one of the judges. As my readers know, she is one of my favorite singer/songwriters of all time. She and the other two judges, Ben Folds, and Shawn Stockman, are the best judges I have seen on a show like this.

I have never been a fan of American Idol, or any of the other reality type singing contests because I think the judges are rude and not very encouraging. Getting up in front of millions of people and singing your heart out takes a lot guts. I just do not find it fair that the judges of these other shows rip apart people for doing what they love to do and I think it makes a mockery of the business. With this being said, The Sing Off is not like that at all. The Sing Off is a showcase of wonderful, and real, talent. The two groups mentioned above are only the beginning. There are now seven groups left and I urge all of my readers, if they are not watching already, to start.

Check out The Sing Off Season 3 on iTunes and at NBC.com. You can also find all of the final groups on Twitter.Brandel Bhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18110414962115769181noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-441308678178427119.post-21272988171520950142011-10-23T08:10:00.000-07:002011-10-23T08:10:52.232-07:00Daniel Levi GoansAs most of my readers know, I have been doing this blog on music reviews for a few months now. While searching for my newest musician to write about, I found Daniel Levi Goans. And wow, I am really glad that I did. Goans has such a smooth and sensual voice. While I am writing this, his music is playing in the background, and I have a smile on my face.

Goans has a confidence in his voice that is thrilling to hear. His music tells a story with every song. I am reminded of music from Dylan and Biaz when I listen to Goans. He has a way of saying things through his music that really makes the listener think. In my opinion, Goans's music does exactly what music is suppose to do. It makes the listener feel at ease, while at the same time, the listener is hearing a story that makes him/her wonder and ponder life.

I sincerely recommend that all of my readers check out David Levi Goans. His music can be found on iTunes, and his website http://daniellevigoans.com/ . Goans deserves to be recognized for his wonderful contribution to the music world and I am glad to be sharing him with all of you! Brandel Bhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18110414962115769181noreply@blogger.com0
